![]() Under Fan tab, check Enable user defined software automatic fan control option. MSI needs to be restarted to apply the changes on these settings.ģ. Check the Unlock voltage control, Unlock voltage monitoring and Force constant voltage options then click Apply and OK. Under General tab, uncheck Start with Windows and Start minimized options. Open MSI Afterburner then go to Settings.Ģ. This program is designed to push your graphics card to its maximum performance to test its stability and thermals. MSI Kombustor is a free stress test utility for graphics card. The theme we used for this guide is MSI touch of Modern by Derek Design. You can download MSI Afterburner here and follow our guide on how to install and customize MSI Afterburner here. It is free, reliable, equipped with monitoring tools, and you can use it with any graphics card even if it is not from MSI. MSI Afterburner is the most popular overclocking software for graphics card. Having better cooling means you can manage the temperature better while adding more MHz on clocks. The card is equipped with two 90mm fan and aluminum heatsink with no heatpipes. Our graphics card for this overclocking is the Colorful BattleAx GeForce GTX 1650 GDDR6 which has a base core clock of 1410 MHz and boost clock of 1590 MHz, and memory clock of 1500 MHz. But it is safer now compared a decade ago as graphics card manufacturer prevents users to completely killing off the graphics card. Depending on the design of the manufacturer, some cards will run without issues at insanely higher clocks, some will not. This will result to higher temperature and higher power draw. Overclocking is basically running the graphics card at higher clocks than what the manufacturer has set. Good luck & hope you get it fixed.Overclocking graphics card is the cheapest way to boost performance out of your graphics card – it costs absolutely nothing from the overclocking software to the process. That may void your warranty so an RMA is required. ![]() You seem to have tried everything but the mechanical disconnect. Not here to fight with anyone, just sometimes we look in the wrong corner for solutions. Check and see how far you can get the chip to go beyond 95 degrees. ![]() That means the bios can not touch the safeguard. Also the safeguards may be in the chip itself. Too many times we forget about the mechanical and focus on the electronic & technical aspect.Īre you telling me that the new Bios will allow the chip to burn up and all safegards are removed? I do not think AMD wants to open themselves up to that type of liability. the personal care a person takes to make sure the components fit properly. Why is water/liquid cooling so effective? 1. you may or may not remember the lapping of the CPU heatsinks from a few years ago and the huge amount of difference it made for CPU temps and thus how well they ran. If there is a mechanical disconnect(GPU has to much paste separating it from the heatsink) nothing else matters. While not a direct response to heat wouldn't it be a by product of what it thinks is occurring? Company of Heroes 2 is of course the sole outlier here for the reference 290, but the 290 Tri-X OC had no problem sustaining 1GHz even though its based on an AMD reference board.ĭon't cooling and efficiency go 'kinda' hand-in-hand? Are you sure you are getting an accurate reading of your temperature? If the chip is calling for extra power at what point will it stop calling for it because it is too much power to keep the chip viable. The 290 series is not seriously power limited except in the case of FurMark, so being able to sustain the GPUs maximum boost clocks is solely a function of cooling, an easy task for the Tri-X cooler to accomplish. ![]() Moving on to average clockspeeds, to no great surprise the 290 Tri-X OC has absolutely no problem hitting and sustaining 1GHz across all of our games. This was said about the Sapphire 290 Tri-X OC in an Anandtech review of the card There are other solutions around the web though to address the issue you are having. If you are playing BF4 one solution is to try MANTLE. I had the same brand during that time period(when they first came out) and I had to RMA mine.Īll that said, you would think the Windforce would be better than that. The surface also were not smooth but had scratches on them, after remedying these issues it too a while longer to reach the threshold. ![]() In one article I read, they had dis-assembled the card and found the application of thermal paste was way too much creating heating issues. The 290X apparently does not have that problem especially the XFX custom cooling solution. I was debating if I should get the 290 VS 290X. They are struggling to keep up and I believe I read that the threshold is 85 degrees for them when they start to throttle. I think it is still heat related on the 290's. ![]()
